Advanced Placement courses are rigorous college-level courses that offer students major benefits and advantages, primarily in the potential for college credit upon successful completion of the AP Exam, administered in May of each year.

Advanced Placement courses also offers weighting double that of an honors or Pre-IB course (0.04 per Semester / 0.08 per Year). This weighting is equal to that of a junior or senior level International Baccalaureate (IB) courses or Dual Enrollment college courses.

Advanced Placement courses also offer a college-level work load and thus serve as an excellent preparation for college. Most colleges look highly upon students electing to take AP courses, as these students are prepared in advance for a college-level work load in addition to possessing advanced study, reasoning and thinking skills. In addition to the challenging classes of Law Studies and Constitutional Law honors, students are offered opportunities to further their knowledge of the law by participating in Mock Trial, Moot Court, Teen Court, and more. The students’ Academy career culminates in a prestigious internship in which they have the opportunity to put their legal knowledge and professional skills to the test in the real world.

Future Signers of America was formed by a group of interested American Sign Language students in 1998. Although the official name is F.S.A, the club decided, in August of 2013, to be known as the ASL club. The purpose of the club is to educate the people interested in the fields pertaining to the language along with Deaf culture.

The club is open to anybody; being able to sign is not a requirement. Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month and the dues are $10.00

The club always performs at the Deaf Service Center’s Sing and Sign (the annual fundraiser). We have gone to Immersion workshops (where students sign the whole time), Deaf Awareness Days, storytelling workshops in which Deaf persons act or perform the story and Deaf Expos.

The club has given a monetary scholarship to a deserving elementary student in the Hearing Impaired program during the first semester, at which we also perform a song. During the second semester, FSA gives a small scholarship to a deserving student in the same program at Fort Myers Middle Academy.

The Fort Myers High School Choral Department is made up of seven choirs comprising 150 students. They have performed several master-works including Schubert’s Mass in G, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Faure’s Messe Basse, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and Missa Brevis. The choirs are also fortunate to have collaborated with the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, the choirs of Florida Gulf Coast University, and the Spirit of the Gulf Chorus.

Lee Virtual School

Lee Virtual School offers a variety of courses, both one semester and full year in length. The courses indicated in this section have proven appropriate for students to complete in the VLL setting, one semester. Students may be more productive in courses they find appealing, therefore, please review each course description and recommendations carefully. Students are not permitted to "switch" between LVS courses at their will ie, withdraw from and enroll in multiple LVS courses. Once a student enrolls in an LVS course, they are expected to successfully complete that course.

The “Little Wave” program has been in existence since the early 1970’s at Fort Myers High School. This early childhood learning lab is a unique program planned to benefit both the preschool child and the high school student. Many students enrolled in this Career and Technical program have aspirations to work with children upon graduation. Students in Early Childhood I learn child development theory and go through a strenuous curriculum provided by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Students in Early Childhood II-IV spend their time operating the preschool implementing lessons and promoting children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. Under careful direction and supervision by Ms. Hollan, a National Board Certified teacher, high-schoolers teach a wide variety of activities within a carefully planned educational program based on National Association of Early Childhood Education best practices.

We currently have opening for preschoolers! Applicants must be age 3-5 and be completely potty trained. Preference is given to FMHS alumni or School District of Lee County employees.

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge of the history, customs, traditions, and purpose of the Army JROTC. The course includes development of basic leadership skills including leadership principles, values, and attributes. Students should master appreciation for diversity. Active learning strategies are integrated throughout the course with an emphasis on writing skills and oral communication techniques. Financial planning as well as physical fitness, diet, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, awareness of substance abuse and prevention, and basic first aid measures are included. An overview of the globe and geography and basic map reading skills are incorporated. A study of the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, responsibilities of United States citizens, and the federal justice system is also provided.
