Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope
Students must write an essay of no more than 100 words about how the consumer electronics, computer equipment and software awarded through Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope could benefit your school.
To enter, log on to www.fourseasonsofhope.com/education and follow the directions provided to complete the Official Entry Form. Entries must be submitted no later than December 1.
FRA Americanism Essay Contest
Students in grades 9-12 may write an essay of no more than 350 words on "What Memorial Day Means to Me." Entries must be submitted by December 1. Prizes include a $5000 savings bond for first place, a $3000 savings bond for second place, and a $2000 savings bond for third place. Ayn Rand Essay Contests
Students in grades 9-10 are eligible to participate in an essay contest in which they must write a 600-1200 word essay about Ayn Rand's Anthem. First prize is $2,000; there are five additional $500 cash awards and ten $200 awards. Deadline is March 20, 2010.
Students in grades 11-12 may write an essay 800-1600 words about Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. First prize is $10,000; there are also five $2,000 awards and ten $1,000 awards. Deadline is April 25, 2010.

Optimist International Essay Contest
Students under age 19 may write an essay 400-500 words about: “The Internet: Today’s Evolution or Tomorrow’s Menace?”
1st place district prize wins a $2,500 college scholarship. On the international level, 1st place wins $6,000 college scholarship; 2nd place: $3, 750 college scholarship; 3rd place: $2,250 college scholarship.

2009 NCTE Student Achievement Awards in Writing
Congratulations to Carl Von Harten, a recipient of the 2009 NCTE Student Achievement Awards in Writing. Carl Von Harten is recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English to be among the best student writers in the country. The English Department will also receive a certificate of commendation which recognizes that each student’s superior achievement is a reflection of the teachers and the English program at Fort Myers High School.
Pride and Patriotism Poetry Contest
Congratulations to our Fort Myers High School poetry winners! These student writers and our American Veterans were honored at Barbara Mann Hall on November 10th at the 2009 “Pride and Patriotism-Youth Celebrating the Arts and Honoring Our Veterans” event. The 9th-10th grade theme was “Pride and Patriotism”; the 11th-12th grade theme was “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
