History and Purpose

The Lee County Red Sox Scholarship is an honor awarded by the Red Sox Foundation, the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. Red Sox Foundation will award a $5,000 scholarship to 13 academically talented Lee County public high school seniors who have shown a commitment to community service. This prestigious scholarship award is for students pursuing a two-year or four-year degree at any college or university. In Spring 2019, the Lee County Red Sox Scholarship will award 13  scholarships, valued at $5,000 each to one student attending each of the following Lee County public high schools.

1. Cape Coral High School
2. Cypress Lake High School 
3. Dunbar High School 
4. East Lee County High School 
5. Estero High School 
6. Fort Myers High School 
7. Ida S. Baker High School
      8. Island Coast High School
9. Lehigh Senior High School
10. Mariner High School
11. North Fort Myers High School
12. Riverdale High School
13. South Fort Myers High School

These prestigious awards will honor 13 Lee County public high school seniors at the selected schools and who will be selected by the Red Sox Foundation according to the following criteria:

1. Each recipient must be a legal resident of Lee County and must plan to attend a two or four-year degree program at an accredited college or university and must be a graduating senior from one of the 13 selected
public high schools in Lee County. Applicants must be planning to enter their first year of college or postsecondary education in Fall 2019.

2. Lee County Red Sox Scholarships Committee will select the scholarship award recipients.

3. Recipients will be chosen from applications submitted by eligible students based on the following criteria:
• Academic performance
• Demonstrated community service
• Eligibility for financial aid

The Scholarship Committee carefully weighs all aspects of a student’s application, but a B average or above and community service are key considerations.

Terms of Award
The Foundation requires that all students comply with the terms of the award offered at the time of their acceptance of this prominent scholarship.

• If possible, please send all materials as one document, labeled with your high school and name, i.e. Cypress Lake High School, John Smith. Please label each page with the page number.

• If you need to email materials in separate documents, please label each document with your high school, name and the material, i.e. Cypress Lake High School, John Smith – Letter of Recommendation, and send all materials in one email. Guidance Counselors may email transcripts and letters of recommendation separately.

• For materials you may have as a hardcopy, i.e. letters of recommendation, please scan and label them accordingly.

• If you must mail the application as hardcopy, please mail them to The Red Sox Foundation at 4 Jersey Street,
Boston MA 02215 or fax to 617-226-6004 before the deadline.


Scholarship grants will be made directly to the awardee’s qualifying college once the scholar is accepted and enrolled. Under no circumstances will grant funds be distributed directly to the scholar, family member, relative, trustee, guardian or any other individual. No cash payments will be made to any entity other than the college where the student is enrolled. Funds may be used for the scholar’s tuition, room, board or other college fees. Funds are not transferable to other students, programs or schools.
